About Elha m's Work

Elha m Hajesmaeili is an interdisciplinary artist working between painting and sculptural forms. Her work explores the body as a site where conscious and unconscious meet, and where identity is continuously forming and shifting.

She was born in Iran and currently lives and works in the United States. Her practice is shaped by the experience of distance—distance from place, language, and what once felt familiar. Rather than addressing this directly, she approaches the body as something that carries these experiences internally.

Elham’s work focuses on moments when the body appears unstable—stretched, opened, or interrupted. Through both painting and sculptural processes, she investigates how the body holds tension and how what remains beneath the surface gradually becomes visible.

Her work moves between containment and release. Surfaces suggest pressure from within, revealing traces of memory, displacement, and transformation. Rather than presenting the body as a complete or fixed form, she is interested in its points of rupture—where something hidden begins to emerge.
